Until recently El Reducto Beach (the capital’s beach) was considered the ugly duckling of beaches on the island. But, after a series of improvements, it has been gaining in popularity with Arrecife’s residents. Currently, if you live or are staying in the capital it is a good option for a spot of relaxing sunbathing (there is a sunbed rental service) and for taking a dip. It also has the advantage that it is protected from the wind by the buildings behind it. And if, in addition to relaxing you fancy taking up some kind of water sports then you can rent equipment from La Santa Surf, and take your pick from stand up paddle, windsurfing, kayaking etc. To round off the day, there is a good variety of restaurants or beachfront bars and cafés along the front, like the Gambrinus.

Eat + drink: Restaurants and terraces.
Pros: Ideal for winding down without having to leave the capital.
Cons: Slightly muddy bottom.
