The route: An accessible viewpoint over the ‘prow’ of Lanzarote.

This is one of Lanzarote’s classic short trails in the north of the island. It takes you to the top edge of the crater where you can enjoy spectacular views.

Once in the village of Ye, park up next to the church. With the church behind you, walk to the right and about 150 metres further on you’ll see a Km 4 sign. Just after that, you’ll see where the track begins to the right, under a lamppost. It leads you between vineyards, fig and cactus plantations and some abandoned land and soon narrows into a path. As you head up, you’ll be surrounded by bitter spurge (Euphorbia regis-jubae), keep going until you reach the top edge of the crater.

From up above, you’ll be able to see the interior of the volcano for yourself; it has to be one of nature’s most remarkable artistic masterpieces. You’ll also have fantastic views across the Chinijo Archipelago with La Graciosa and Montaña Clara on one side and the tiny, lonely-looking Roque del Este on the other.
