Difficulty: Moderate. Some ascents are made much more difficult in strong winds.
Best feature: A very good training workout with beautiful views, especially along the panoramic road by the Mirador del Río.
Road safety: Cyclists must take the service road that runs parallel to the LZ-1. Caution is advised on the roads in the north which tend to be windy and with barely any verges.

The route: Ride through the beautiful north.

The tour of the north of Lanzarote is mostly flat at first and then you’ll face different gradients of ascent from Arrieta onwards. The turnaround point is the Mirador del Río. On the return leg of the ride after two pretty valleys there is an ascent up the beautiful Malpaso Valley.

Variant 1. Longer option up to Órzola (79 kms total): Instead of riding up the LZ-201, continue along the LZ-1 to the northernmost tip of the island and the fishing port of Órzola where you can begin your ascent up to the Mirador del Río.

Variant 2. Shortest option ascending through Tabayesco Valley (50.5 kms total): Take a left turn off the LZ-1 road one kilometre before the original route and climb the LZ-207 road up the Tabayesco and Malpaso hillsides. This variant does not take you to the Mirador del Río.
