Difficulty: Moderate. Increased difficulty if there is strong wind.
Best feature: The Tabayesco and Malpaso Valley climbs are classic ascents on the island and provide very good training.
Road safety: Cyclists must take the service road from Tahíche which runs parallel to the LZ-1. The verges are narrow or non-existent in the northern parts of the route, but there is little traffic. Cars usually go fast on the Villa de Teguise – Mozaga section.

The route: Training in the beautiful north.

Superb cycling route in the north of Lanzarote which turns round and heads back after the well-known Tabayesco and Malpaso climbs. There are two possible alternative extended routes which take in the Mirador del Río and its road with famously panoramic views.

Variant 1. Longer route that takes in the Mirador del Río (94.5 kms total): Instead of turning left on the LZ-207, continue to the town of Arrieta and take the LZ-201 and LZ-202 to reach the Mirador del Río. After enjoying the views, you can head back at your leisure.

Variant 2. The longest option as far as Órzola (107 kms total): Continue along the LZ-1, along the coast road to the fishing village of Órzola. The return ride begins here via the ascent to the Mirador del Río.
