Location: Playa Honda residential town [MAP]

 

Playa Honda is little more than 40 years old. It grew as a result of the influx of workers attracted by Lanzarote’s economic development. Today, it’s a popular town which appeals because of its central location, its business and shopping facilities, as well as its restaurants and of course, its beaches. This is the region of the island where that belt of coarse white jable sand that gets blown across the island is washed away back into the ocean. They are urban beaches frequented by residents. Some are very quiet as they are located at the foot of the airport runway.

Playa de Arencibia or La Concha Beach
Size: 160 meters wide.
Services: Showers.
Eat + drink: There is no establishments.
Best feature: Quieter than other beaches in the area.

 

Arencibia is the surname of the first family to have a beachfront home here. It’s a large beach which quite often has a pool of seawater that accumulates in the centre, making it ideal for children. The only downside is that doesn’t have much shelter from the wind.

Playa Honda

Size: 100 meters wide.
Services: Showers.
Eat + drink: Various restaurants.
Best feature: A great atmosphere, especially in the summer.

 

This is the beach that gives the town its name and is in the busiest area of town opposite the best known restaurants. It is sheltered from the wind but is small and a bit rocky.

Playa del Señor Juan

Size: 75 meters wide.
Services: Showers, soccer goals, children’s play area.
Eat + drink: There are no establishments.
Best feature: Spacious beach, ideal for beach sports.

 

This beach is named after the gentleman that used to live in one of the beach houses that separates this beach from the above-named Playa Honda beach. Fairly sheltered from the wind and quite a bit bigger than Playa Honda beach.

Playa de Guacimeta

Size: 540 meters wide.
Services: Lifeguard, showers, soccer goals.
Eat + drink: There are no establishments.
Best feature: A long beach which means it never gets overcrowded in summer.

 

This is the longest beach of all of Playa Honda beaches which means there’s more than enough space for everyone, although you might find yourself battling with the wind which is a frequent companion here. Ideal for jogging along at low tide.

Playa de El Tiburón
Size: 110 meters wide.
Services: No.
Eat + drink: There are no establishments.
Best feature: A dog-friendly beach.

 

This is a small beach away from the urban centre, near the airport runway. It’s easy to reach by just following the beachfront path that runs all the way along the coast. Dogs are allowed, but with certain restrictions.

Playa de Guacimeta –Airport Beach
Size: 700 meters wide.
Services: No.
Eat + drink: There are no establishments.
Best feature: Considered by many the most charming beach in the area.

 

This is the quietest of all and is also near the airport. It’s a good size and can be a favourite spot for naturists.
